The Golden Time HIV 1/2 Antibody Self Test Kit is a colloidal gold-based rapid diagnostic test used to detect HIV-1 and HIV-2 antibodies in human blood samples. If your test is complete, you must read and interpret the results between 15 and 20 minutes after adding the sample diluent; do not interpret results after 20 minutes as they become invalid.
How to Interpret Your Result
- Negative Result: One colored line appears only in the Control (C) region, and no line appears in the Test (T) region.
- Positive Result: Two colored lines appear, one in the Control (C) region and one in the Test (T) region.
- Invalid Result: No line appears in the Control (C) region, even if a line appears in the Test (T) region. You must perform a new test.
Critical Considerations
- The Window Period: Rapid self-tests have a window period of up to 90 days (12 weeks). A negative result is only definitive for exposures that occurred more than 3 months ago. If you had a potential exposure within the last 12 weeks, you must repeat the test after the window period ends.
- Recent Exposures (PEP): If you believe you were exposed to HIV within the last 72 hours, do not rely on a self-test. Go to a hospital or clinic immediately to request Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP), which can prevent infection.
- Confirmation Required: No rapid self-test is 100% accurate. All results—especially positive results—must be confirmed by a healthcare provider using a laboratory-based confirmatory HIV test.
